This summer, Aspen Public Radio is pleased to present Susan Stamberg, NPR's renowned broadcast journalist, in a summer evening benefit. The event will be hosted in an elegant Aspen residence on Tuesday, July 10. Proceeds from this private appearance by Ms. Stamberg will assist in Aspen Public Radio’s continued commitment to provide locally produced news, cultural affairs, and talk shows that are relevant to the community we serve.
An NPR "founding mother," Ms. Stamberg is a pioneer at NPR and has been on staff since the network began in 1971. Benefit attendees will have the unique opportunity to hear Ms. Stamberg, speak about her 40 years with the organization. The evening will also include cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and the opportunity for questions and further conversation with Ms. Stamberg.
Ms. Stamberg is the first woman to anchor a national nightly news program, and she has won every major award in broadcasting. She is an inductee into the Broadcasting Hall of Fame and the Radio Hall of Fame. Beginning in 1972, Ms. Stamberg served as co-host of NPR's award-winning newsmagazine All Things Considered for 14 years. She then hosted Weekend Edition Sunday, and she now serves as guest host of NPR's Morning Edition and Weekend Edition Saturday, in addition to reporting on cultural issues for all the NPR programs.
One of the most popular broadcasters in public radio, Ms. Stamberg is well-known for her conversational style, intelligence, and knack for finding an interesting story. Her interviewing has been called "fresh," friendly, down-to-earth," and, by novelist E.L. Doctorow, "the closest thing to an enlightened humanist on the radio." Her thousands of interviews include conversations with Laura Bush, Billy Crystal, Rosa Parks, Dave Brubeck, and Luciano Pavarotti.
