Applicants turn out for Willits hotel job fair

Elise Thatcher

A new hotel in Willits Town Center already has more applicants than job openings. Hotel management held a job fair Tuesday, screening people who want to work there. Called the "Element by Westin Basalt-Aspen," the establishment is expected to open in early December.

"We have probably between 27 - 30 jobs to fill, between full and part time,” says General Manager Michael Welly, who works with Silverwest Hotels LLC of Denver. That company owns the Willits location. “And we saw [Tuesday] 40+ people.” Welly says those applying Tuesday were so qualified, it’ll be hard to decide who to hire. At more than a hundred rooms, the Element will be the first new hotel in the mid valley in several years.
