A new climbing program could be coming to the mid-valley. First, they need a wall.
This weekend, students at Basalt High School will host a climbing film festival to fund an indoor climbing gym at auxiliary gym. The 65-foot wall would be available for all Basalt students for PE programs, students staying after school and hands-on learning. Six student-athletes are currently training to represent the school in competition, and say they would benefit from an in-house practice facility.
The student-led fundraising efforts have raised $65,000 of the $75,000 needed to construct the wall. The program will also provide students with shoes and harnesses. The Reel Rock film festival is Saturday at the high school.
