The Basalt Police Department is considering having officers wear body cameras, or "body cams." Police Chief Greg Knott said lots of departments around the country are starting to use them.

He said the cameras, which officers wear at all times while they're working, can help provide transparency. He claimed his officers are amenable to the idea, but that some in the community are skeptical. Some don’t want to be filmed. Others have more philosphical disagreements.

"The idea of Big Brother watching. I’ve heard that," Knott said.

The program would cost taxpayers around $7,000 a year. The department is reaching out on social media for community input. Knott expects to make a decision by mid-November.
