Council asks for Base Village exploratory initiative

The timing of a terminated business deal in Snowmass Village is the latest delay for the ongoing Base Village development, and elected officials there are not pleased

Members of the Snowmass Town Council on Monday expressed their confusion regarding the partnerships behind the newly-amended Base Village plan. Mayor Markey Butler said the council and the public were caught off-guard when Related kicked Sunrise off the project for unknown reasons last week. According to the approved plans, Sunrise would have been responsible for the arrival center, as well as residential and commercial development.

Butler called on town manager Clint Kinney and his staff to investigate how the change would affect the timeline of the development.

“I do think it’s very important that we go into an exploratory phase and direct Clint to do so, because I want to know what’s going on” said Butler.

Council members said it had been reassuring to have Sunrise on the development team, and that much of their support for the amended plan was based on the company’s local presence.
