Prior to the Nov. 8 election, Colorado voters will receive a booklet of information about the measures that will show up on their ballots. This is the last week for the public to submit statements to be included in the Taxpayer Bill of Rights “blue book.”
There are eight tax-related ballot measures in Pitkin County this year, and two inEagle County. Voters can submit either a pro or con statement of no more than 500 words. The statement needs to be signed and mailed in to the respective county clerk’s offices by this Friday, Sept. 23. Pitkin County Clerk Janice Vos Caudill said the statements help the public decipher the complicated ballot language.
“You're comparing an issue statement written by a lawyer - which is the issue on the ballot - versus someone submitting their opinion through the pros and cons," Caudill said.
Each election official is responsible for combining and summarizing the statements received.
Yesterday was the deadline for the Secretary of State’s office to certify each county’s ballots. Mock-ups should be available online by next week. The Secretary of State’s office also warns of a phone scam seeking private information under the guise of verifying resident’s voter registration. The state will not contact voters except to respond to inquiries initiated by voters themselves.
