Festival Notes - July 21st, 2014

Today is Monday, July 21st.

Today and every Monday throughout the Festival at 10:15am, the Festival offers a free guided tour of the Bucksbaum Campus. If you haven’t yet toured the newer buildings there, here’s your chance. Meet at the Administration Building.

You can also take a free guided backstage tour of the Benedict Music Tent and Harris Concert Hall, today and every Monday through August 11th at noon. Meet on the Tent Plaza.

Composition Number 2, “Dies Irae” by Ustvolskaya and the Cesar Franck Piano Quintet will be played at 6pm today in the Benedict Music Tent.

The film “The Great Flood,” about the Mississippi River flood of 1927, will be shown tonight at 8pm in Harris Concert Hall with the score performed live by Bill Frisell, electric guitar, Ron Miles, trumpet, Tony Scherr, bass and guitar, and Kenny Wollesen, drums and vibraphone.

Classical music reporter Chris Mohr has loved classical music since he was twelve. “And I owe it all to radio,” Chris explains. “I grew up in a farm town east of Cleveland. One day I turned on the local classical radio station. They were playing Vivaldi, and it was like the gates of heaven opened up to me!" Chris is also a composer, and is working on a 53-note-to-the-octave oratorio, "Melodies of the Shoreless Sea." This is his ninth summer working for Aspen Public Radio.
