Glenwood Springs anesthesiologist repays state after double billing Medicaid

The Colorado Attorney General’s Office says Glenwood Springs doctor Frederick Oakes has repaid $16,006.32 to a state agency, after an investigation revealed the doctor had filed for extra Medicaid payments.

The Attorney General’s office says Oakes retired last year and his practice, known as “Glenwood Springs Anesthesiology,” has been dissolved. Oakes did not respond to a request for comment on Wednesday and no criminal charges have been filed.

Oakes is listed online as working with Valley View Hospital, but a spokesperson for the hospital said this week that the anesthesiologist was never an employee there.

The repayment is part of a state-wide sweep. Eight anesthesiology providers had to pay back a total of more than $3 million to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
