Glenwood Springs’ annual Strawberry Days kicks off

Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association & Film Commission

Strawberry Days started 120 years ago in Glenwood Springs to celebrate the strawberry harvest.

It is the longest running “civic celebration” west of the Mississippi, according to the city’s chamber of commerce.

After Saturday’s parade, there will be free strawberries and ice cream for everyone, as tradition would have it.

According to Marianne Virgili, the president of Glenwood’s Chamber, the event attracts 50,000 people over the weekend. Most out-of-town visitors are from Colorado.

The celebration officially kicks off Friday at 4 p.m. and ends Sunday at 5 p.m. Live music is in store for the weekend, as is an arts and crafts fair, a beer garden and more.
