The University of Colorado Boulder has launched a brand new Space Minor program for undergraduate students.
Classes in the new program include plenty of science and engineering, but also courses like Philosophy and Science Fiction or the curiously-named Future of Spaceship Earth. This wide variety, which also includes law, history, art, music, film and geography classes, is meant to attract students from all majors on campus.
“That’s all tied in with the growing space industry on the Front Range here. They’re hiring students from CU,” said Steve Nerem, a faculty director of the program and an aerospace engineering professor. “A lot of students graduate from here and want to stay on the Front Range.”
Students who pursue the minor will all take one introductory course, plus an additional four classes that align with their own majors and interests.
