The Olympic Experience? "Incredible!"

Ruthie Brown

EDITOR’S NOTE: We are very excited to share the travels of Simi Hamilton’s family to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Over the next few weeks we’ll be sharing dispatches from Ruthie Brown and family as they give you a first-hand, “behind-the-scenes” look at the Olympics.

Team Sprint! Both the women and the men made it into the finals as Lucky Losers- the top two skiers move on in each heat and the fastest two skiers from the fastest heat moves on as Lucky Losers. Kikkan Randal and Sophie Caldwell held strong until the last heat and faded in the final to finish in 8th.  Veteran Andy Newell, the top American sprinter, unfortunately was sick (after years of prepping for this event) so Eric Bjornson stepped up to the plate to be Simi's partner. Both skied a smart race, making aggressive moves at the right times, and earned sixth place, a best-ever finish for the U.S! Being Simi's last race in Sochi, he was asked how he was feeling about the Olympic experience. He summed it up... Incredible! With some success, some disappointments, lessons learned and full steam ahead to the next race (they're back on the World Cup circuit, headed next to Lahti Finland). And the family....stay posted....we're looking forward to South Korea in 4 years!
