From Paris to the Polls

The American Renewable Energy Institute hosts the 13th annual AREDAY summit beginning today (Monday) in Snowmass Village. The event runs through Friday and includes film and music events open to the public.

New this year, the sustainability summit coincides with the height of summer action in Aspen, sandwiched between the Food and Wine festival and the Aspen Institute’s Ideas Festival, and the Jazz Aspen June Experience.

And, it’s a big eco year worldwide. In December, 195 countries successfully signed a pact to protect the environment during the global climate change conference in Paris. This year’s ARE DAY conference theme asks how communities can implement low-carbon strategies and strengthen economies through renewable energy, one directive from the Paris pact.

Aspen Mayor Steve Skadron will present on his experience at the Paris climate talks. Former Colorado Senator Mark Udall will be speaking about the politics of climate change.

The IMPACT film documentary screenings will run concurrent with the conference and an “innovation incubator” will lend support to start-up companies in the climate change field.
