RFTA gauges valley's appetite for mill levy

The Roaring Fork Transportation System (RFTA) is taking the pulse of voters and governments up and down the valley for a possible mill levy. It would fund the bus system for the next 20 years.

RFTA met Monday with Aspen City Council and Tuesday with the Pitkin County Commissioners, both of which unanimously support a mill levy of some kind.

In two weeks, RFTA will hold a meeting in Snowmass Village. The week after that will bring meetings in Carbondale and Basalt.

A mill levy would fund some, if not all, of the 40 or so projects the bus service has identified in its future, from increased buses to Snowmass and weekend BRT service, to buying electric buses.
