Roaring Fork Apartments Evacuated

All residents of the Roaring Fork Apartments in Basalt were evacuated Tuesday. A water line broke and flooded the first floor of the building, according to Basalt Town Manager, Ryan Mahoney.

He reported seeing water damage to at least one apartment, but said no one was hurt.

First responders were quick to shut off the other utilities, like gas and electricity.

Evacuees can stay at a Basalt High School temporary shelter Tuesday night. An evacuation center has been set up at the Basalt Town Hall for day use. The Aspen Animal Shelter is housing pets for those who need assistance.

It is expected that the evacuation order will remain in place for weeks as security measures are taken within the building.
