Week in the Arts: Jan. 22, 2018

 

Tonight at 5, Colorado Mountain College in Aspen presents a reception for the group exhibition “Open Book: The Book as Object and Image,” featuring work from over 30 artists.

 

Tuesday, there will be an author talk and book signing with 2017 U.S. Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith at Paepcke Auditorium at 6. She is the second speaker in this season’s Aspen Words lineup.

 

Wednesday at 5, the Aspen Art Museum’s CEO and director Heidi Zuckerman will give a talk titled, “I Don’t Get It” regarding the works of artist Nate Lowman currently on display.

 

Also Wednesday, The Art Base will give a presentation on “The Art of Doing Business: How to Build a Presence as a Working Artist” in Basalt. That event starts at 5:30.

 

And then Wednesday night in Aspen, Method Man and Redman will play Belly Up Aspen. That show starts at 10.

 

Thursday and Friday at 10, Belly Up Aspen will showcase two nights of LCD Soundsystem ahead of LCD’s X Games show on Saturday.

 

Friday and Saturday Colorado Mountain College’s Theatre Program will bring encore performances of their fall production of the play “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.” Both shows start at 7 at The Wheeler Opera House.

 

Sunday at The Temporary, there will be a Winter Jazz Party starting at 4 in Basalt.

 

And Sunday, Aspen Poets Society will host a Live Poetry night at the Mountain Chalet starting at 6:30.
