Week in the Arts - June 10, 2017

 

Welcome to the beginning of another week in the Roaring Fork Valley!

Monday, Theatre Aspen’s production of the musical “Hairspray” will continue its run in the Hurst Theatre at 7:30 p.m. this week, with additional performances at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday. For more information, visit theatreaspen.org.

 

Monday and Tuesday, comedian Dave Chappelle has four stand-up gigs at the Belly Up. One starts at 7 p.m. and the other at 9:30 p.m. each evening. For more information, check out bellyupaspen.com.

 

Tuesday, The Ann Korologos Gallery Art & Lecture Program presents author Alan Day for an author talk and book signing, starting at 4 p.m. in Basalt. Visit korologosgallery.com for further details.

 

Running in repertory with “Hairspray” is Theatre Aspen’s production of the play “Sex with Strangers” in the Hurst Theatre. It will be on Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. More details at theatreaspen.org.

 

On Wednesday, the Belly Up presents internationally renowned recording artist, film and tv star Fernando Allende in concert to benefit the local nonprofit English in Action. That show starts at 6:30 p.m. More at bellyupaspen.com.

 

Thursday, Iowa Writer’s Workshop grad Paul Cohen will read from and sign copies of his new novel The Glamshack at 5:30 p.m. at Explore Booksellers.

 

Then at 6:30 p.m., Aspen Story Night continues its monthly meet-ups in Smuggler Park. This month, bring or listen to stories that fall in with the theme “Into The Wild.”

 

And, Theatre Aspen will preview “The World According To Snoopy” Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and Friday at 3 p.m. before the show’s official opening on that night at 6 p.m. More details at theatreaspen.org.

 

Also on Friday night, the Aspen Chamber Symphony will perform alongside violinist Sarah Chang in the Benedict Music Tent at 6 p.m.. This will  be conducted by Patrick Summers. More information at aspenmusicfestival.com.

 

Saturday the Snowmass Free Concert Series continues with the Deaf Camp Benefit, an annual celebration of the Aspen Camp of the Deaf & Hard of Hearing at 2 p.m. in Snowmass Village.

 

The Aspen Music Festival and School’s production of "La Traviata" at The Wheeler Opera House will premiere Saturday, July 15 at 7:00 p.m. For more information, visit aspenmusicfestival.com.

 

And later that night Saturday in Carbondale, Thunder River Theatre Company’s Consensual Improv troupe returns to the Blackbox at 8 p.m. For details, visit thunderrivertheatre.com.
