Week In The Arts: Sept. 24 - 30

Welcome to the beginning of another week in the Roaring Fork Valley. This is Week in the Arts, a curated list of upcoming exhibitions and events.

The 39th annual Aspen FilmFest runs Tuesday through Sunday. Screenings will be held at the Wheeler Opera House and Isis Theatre in Aspen and Crystal Theatre in Carbondale. In addition, panels and Q&A’s will take place at the Wheeler.

Also Tuesday is “Let’s Just Dance” at the Third Street Center in Carbondale. The evening starts with a dance lesson, followed by waltzes, two-steps, swing dancing and more.  No partner required. The event starts at 7 p.m.

Wednesday, the documentary “The Devil And Daniel Johnston” will be screened at Anderson Ranch. The film explores the songwriter’s creativity and struggles with mental health.  It starts at 7 p.m.

The Aspen Chapel’s Contemplative Artist Series continues on Thursday with a flower design workshop. The class starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Aspen Chapel.

The drama “Equus” begins its run at Carbondale’s Thunder River Theatre Company on Friday. Corey Simpson directs the Tony-award winning play. The production starts at 7:30 p.m.

Also Friday, jazz musician Maria Muldaur takes the stage at the Temporary in Basalt. She’ll perform the music of Blue Lu Barker, a blues legend in the 1940s. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Sopris Theatre Company performs “The Other Place” at Colorado Mountain College’s Spring Valley campus on Friday and Saturday evening.  The production begins at 7 p.m.
