Democrats gain, Republicans lose registered voters

Elise Thatcher

Democrats have gained registered voters in the Roaring Fork Valley area over the last year.

Compared to early last year, there are 40 more Democrats registered in Pitkin County, more than 70 added in Garfield County, and 266 more in Eagle County. Political affiliation is required in order to help choose a primary candidate in March.

The number of active Republican voters has gone down in all three counties, notably in Garfield, where the number has dropped by nearly 500. It’s possible those have moved into the “inactive” category, if those voters have not cast a ballot in recent elections. Independent voters outnumber either party in all three counties.
