Aspen mourns ski instructor, community member

The Aspen Mountain Ski and Snowboard School is shaken after the death of longtime instructor Hansi Brenninger.

Andy Docken heads the ski school on Aspen Mountain, and said it’s been non-stop with friends and fellow ski instructors stopping by or getting in touch about the passing of Hansi Brenninger. Brenninger died Saturday after hitting a tree at Park City Mountain Resort.

“As people are inquiring about what happens next in memory of Hansi,” said Docken on Monday afternoon. “As far as a memorial service or celebration of life, we’re definitely in a process of seeing what’s going to be best for supporting the community and the family.”

Tributes to Brenninger started over the weekend, soon after his death. On Aspen Mountain that included spelling his name out on the snow, so that gondola riders could see his name on the slopes.
