80 new bikes set for Mid-Valley WE-cycle program

Aspen Public Radio News

There will be 23 new bike stations between Basalt and El Jebel this season. Some station locations have been determined but residents can still weigh in about where all the docks will be placed.

The 80 new bikes will be spread among the Willits, Basalt and El Jebel bus stops, as well as Midland Avenue and the library in Basalt, and at the Rocky Mountain Institute.

And this year, a WE-cycle pass can be integrated with a seasonal pass for the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority’s bus fleet.

WE-cycle founder Mirte Mallory says the hope is a point-to-point driverless commute.

“Use it to check out a bike at Arbaney Park, ride to the Basalt BRT, show it to the bus driver, bus into Aspen, get off at the Paepcke Park Molly Gibson station and perhaps ride to your final destination,” she said.
