A record number of tourists stopped through Aspen this summer.
Data compiled by travel analytics company Destimetrics was released this week and shows that, for the tenth year in a row, Aspen saw summer occupancy numbers rise.
The town entertained 7 percent more visitors this summer than in 2015. The Aspen Chamber Resort Association has been working to encourage Sunday through Wednesday visits and other off-peak times through target marketing and by giving group discounts. ACRA saw a 10 percent rise in group sales this year.
Julia Theisen, vice president of sales and marketing at ACRA, said the increased tourism is a benefit to the local economy and quality of life, by increasing tax revenue for schools and trails.
September is slated to also break capacity records, already coming in 19 percent higher than 2015. Stay Aspen Snowmass president Bill Tomsich credits the continued availability of non-stop flights on American and United Airlines through October for the fall increase.
