A community conversation this evening encourages conversations about death and dying well before the tough decisions need to be made.
The event, titled “Let’s Talk Life” addresses end-of-life issues including palliative care, advanced care planning, and medical aid in dying. Physician-assisted suicide became legal in 2016 when Coloradans overwhelmingly approved Proposition 106. Under the new law, individual health organizations get to choose if and when to implement the measure. After a year of study and training, Aspen Valley Hospital has recently opted to allow end of life procedures at their facility. The option is rarely used in other states where it is legal, but the hospital wanted to make sure there is a fully trained team on staff before opting in to the procedure.
The night includes presentations and question-and answer-opportunities with experts from Aspen Valley Hospital and Homecare and Hospice of the Valley.
The talk is from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the Aspen School District Theatre.
