Aspen City staff is recommending approval for a new 1A ski-lift terminal near Dean Street.
For nearly a year, the city has been working with two developers, along with the Aspen Skiing Company, the Aspen Historical Society and consultants to work out an agreement to replace and extend lift 1A, on the west side of Aspen Mountain.
The group unanimously picked one scenario out of 10 potential configurations they say satisfies all parties. The option, known as Scenario 7, will be on display during a public open house Tuesday at 12 p.m. in City Hall. The proposal brings the ski lift down to Dean Street, near the historical society’s proposed ski museum.
Jennifer Phelan, deputy planning director said the council will likely take public comment as well, as they consider the proposed lift configuration.
“At the work session, we are asking city council to provide some clear direction on do they want us to move forward and we are proposing a pretty aggressive timeline,” she said.
Community Development Director Jessica Garrow said the aggressive timeline is needed to allow for a November ballot measure.
“We can't say to you today exactly what triggers the public vote,” Garrow said. “There’s potential for three different votes in November.”
Lift One Lodge, Gorsuch Haus and a portion of city property all have anticipated zone variance requests, which, in Aspen, requires a public vote.
