The House Select Committee investigating the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol is holding a public meeting to discuss and vote on possible criminal referrals. The committee will be making a case for why the Justice Department should pursue criminal charges in connection to former president Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. It’s also preparing to release a lengthy final report about its investigation of the insurrection. Both the closing argument and final report come after a year-and-a-half-long inquiry. The committee of seven Democrats and two Republicans is set to dissolve at the end of the year.
