The FIRM Takes Collaborative Approach To The Business Of Art

Artist collective the FIRM has a new show opening at Carbondale Clay Center on Friday.  The four members have taken a cooperative approach to the business side of art.

Shane Christensen, Brian Jensen, Stephen Heywood and Michael Schmidt founded the FIRM to combine their efforts for things like applying for shows, promotion and networking, so that they’d have more time and energy to spend in the studio.

The four ceramicists, who met in graduate school, say they also find support and friendship in the collaboration.

Christensen, Jensen, Heywood and Schmidt each have a distinctive styles, but all of their work is bases on functional pottery, like cups and containers.

An opening reception for the show takes place at the Carbondale Clay Center Friday night.
