Therapist, Author Lori Gottlieb On How Happiness Can Make You Miserable
In resort communities, the pressure to be, or, at least appear, happy can make some people less likely to talk about feeling depressed or lonely. Therapist and author Lori Gottlieb encourages people to be honest about the fact that life’s not perfect.
Her new book “Maybe You Should Talk To Someone” details her experiences working with four of her patients.
The fifth patient in the book is Gottlieb herself, who goes to therapy after a personal crisis.
Gottlieb is in town to speak at the Aspen Ideas Festival. Reporter Christin Kay caught up with her to ask about pulling back the curtain on therapy, and about the picture for mental health here in the Roaring Fork Valley.
Gottlieb spoke about the importance of being persistant in finding a therapist that’s right for you, and about why making happiness your ultimate goal can backfire.
