Local Faces And Stories Illuminate the Impact Of Climate Change In The Roaring Fork Valley

As part of a valley-wide mural project launched in early March, community members from all walks of life took self-portraits and recorded stories about climate change.

If you find yourself wandering the streets of Aspen, Carbondale, or Glenwood Springs this month, you will be greeted by collages of oversized self-portraits pasted on Colorado Mountain College buildings. The valley-wide art installation is made up of the faces of 89 community members who recorded stories of their experiences with climate change. They spanned ages two to 78 and they told their stories in both English and Spanish. They shared a connection to the Roaring Fork Valley and to this prompt: “Climate change knows no boundaries. The health of the planet affects — and unites — us all. What has your experience been?”

The Community Office For Resource Efficiency (CORE) debuted “Stories of Climate Change/Historias del Cambio Climático” to raise awareness about climate change in our daily lives. The community mural project is a part of both CORE’s third annual Imagine Climate series and the grassroots Inside Out Project created by renowned artist JR.

Below are just a few of the self-portraits and stories recorded by local participants. To hear all of the stories from the crowdsourced mural project visit CORE’s website.
