The City of Aspen is asking if dockless mobility is a good fit for its streets.
From Seattle to Miami, and plenty of cities in between, there has been buzz abound about dockless mobility. The term refers to bikes and scooters that riders pick up using an app on their phones, and then abandon at their destination.
Those modes of transport, often electrically powered, have been heralded as a cheap and convenient way for tourists and locals alike to get around cities. But they have also drawn criticism for creating traffic dangers and leaving a mess when they are left on sidewalks.
The city has issued an online survey and a space for public comment that is open until Dec. 16. Additionally, officials will hold a public open house at the Limelight hotel in Aspen on Dec. 4.
Input from those forums will be used to shape a report and make a recommendation to Aspen City Council in early 2020.
