2016 could be big year for Basalt affordable housing

Elise Thatcher

Basalt could see some relief when it comes to affordable housing. Basalt Town Manager Mike Scanlon says there’s a long list of new projects on the horizon, which could alleviate some of the increasing demand for homes and apartments.

“If we want to make a dent in it, it’s going to have to happen this year,” said Scanlon this week. “We have enough partners working on products, we have enough land that’s been identified that can be used for affordable housing.”

If all the projects on the table move forward, there could more than 200 units under construction in 2016. Some would be funded publicly, others privately.
