Fungi are some of the ecosystem’s unsung heroes. The Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES) is giving them their day in the sun on Friday at Mushroom Fair.

Andrew Wilson is the assistant curator of mycology at the Denver Botanic Gardens. He’ll speak Friday at Mushroom Fair.  He said that mycoflora--or the fungi found in a particular habitat--may not be glamorous, but they work hard behind the scenes.

"Without fungi, plants on land as we know them likely would not exist.  Trees...cannot grow to the majestic sizes that we know them to be without fungi that work in collaboration with [them]," said Wilson.

Mushroom Fair attendees can learn about a variety of mushrooms to ACES at Hallam Lake Friday afternoon, including types that can be eaten. They are also welcome to BYOM--bring your own mushrooms--to share and learn about.
