Aspen-based company Detailing HQ usually provides cleaning and paint touch-ups for cars. But now, owner Jake Greene is offering disinfecting services for essential businesses and workers on the frontlines of COVID-19.

Earlier this week, 26-year-old Jake Greene was standing in the Aspen Valley Hospital parking lot covered head-to-toe in a biosuit and full face respirator. He was using his mobile cleaning equipment on a local nurse's car.

“What I'm doing is using a cold fogger, which is used on stuff like buses, houses, cars and airplanes,” he said.

Greene described the Ghostbuster-like machine as “a little mini-cannon” that blasts out a mist of hospital-grade disinfectant. He said the method follows guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and the Environmental Protection Agency to kill surface germs and reduce the risk of infection.

"It's kind of like an invisible war we have going on."

Greene has cleaned cars and homes for first responders, including his own dad and sister who work at Aspen Valley Hospital.

“There's definitely some emotions there," he said. “I’m trying to protect my family as well as other community members and neighbors.”

As Governor Jared Polis begins to reopen the state, Greene said he hopes to disinfect essential businesses to keep workers and customers safe.

“If we are able to disinfect, then we can give them the peace of mind that the workplace is clean and starting from a clean slate each day,” he said. “Anything we can do to help, we'd be so happy to.”

Greene said they will continue offering the service as long as it’s needed.
