The Aspen Film ShortsFest lineup was announced by the art organization yesterday. The festival includes 78 films (only about 60 are competing) including everything from animation to dramas and comedies.

The festival is the world’s largest short film festival, and a qualifying event for the short film category at the Academy Awards. Winners of the categories for best drama, comedy and documentary (among others) can then submit their film to the Oscars.

The field of films started at around 3200 before being whittled down to the final lineup.

Films are being screened at Aspen’s Wheeler Opera House and Carbondale’s Crystal Theater.

Valley local Gayle Embrey’s film “God Willing” was selected as part of the film festival.

The first day of the Festival is April 5.
