Aspen loses local icon Carl Bergman

Prominent Aspenite Carl Bergman passed away over the weekend. He was 85 years old. He and his wife Katie bought Matthews Drug on the corner of Monarch and Main Street in 1965 and renamed it Carl’s Pharmacy. The drugstore remains an Aspen icon, along with the Bergmans’ second operation, the Miners Building. Both business have remained locally-serving through the years, providing affordable household goods, cosmetics, and craft supplies. Carl was a history buff, serving as president of the Aspen Historical Society. He was also instrumental in the creation of the Holden Marolt Mining and Ranching Museum.
