AspenOut Funds HIV Tests For World AIDS Day

Saturday is World AIDS day, and a local non-profit is paying for HIV testing for valley residents on Friday.

AspenOut and Planned Parenthood are teaming up to provide free HIV screening. Tests typically run between $50 and $75. This is part of the "Know Your Status" campaign that educates people about the risks of HIV.

Kevin McManamon, Executive Director with AspenOut says this test is important. "It's essential that you know your status so that you can protect yourself, and protect others and your family," she said.

According to a 2015 count by the Centers for Disease Control, an estimated 1.1 million people in the United States are HIV positive and one in seven did not know they were infected.

Tests will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Planned Parenthood of the Rockies in Glenwood Springs. Participants can schedule an appointment in advance or walk-in.
