The real-life inspiration for characters in the films “The Sandlot” and “Radio Flyer” comes to Aspen this week to discuss his new memoir.
Scott Evans really did jump over a fence to rescue a baseball from a huge dog, like Mike in “The Sandlot.” And, like Bobby in “Radio Flyer,” he survived an abusive childhood.
His older brother Dave wrote and directed the two movies.
Evans’ memoir “Pacoima Days” details the abuse the two boys suffered at the hands of their stepfather as they grew up in Pacoima, CA. Evans says their terrible home life led them to constantly chase adventures.
"That’s the lighter side of what "Pacoima Days" is about, is all the adventure," he said.
Evans reads from and discusses his memoir at Explore Booksellers Friday at 5:30 p.m.
