Authorities pursue leads in Glenwood Springs shooting

Police continue to investigate a possible murder-suicide in Glenwood Springs.

79-year-old Joseph Llewellyn was found dead on Tuesday. The Garfield County Coroner’s office confirmed the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head. His 73-year-old wife, Mary Kent, was injured, although authorities haven’t released further details.

Llewellyn and Kent were long-time residents of Glenwood Springs. After being rushed to Valley View Hospital, Kent was flown to a Denver hospital.

Police suspect it could have been a suicide pact, but no note was found. Friends told The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel they had recently spent time with the couple, making the tragedy even harder to understand. Llewellyn and Kent reportedly had health problems. Kent remains in Denver.
