Ballots for AVH board seats in the mail

Ballots for this spring’s election for two board seats at Aspen Valley Hospital are expected to show up in mailboxes this week. Carolyn Sackariason has the details.

It’s the first contested race for the board of directors at the hospital in six years. AVH canceled two previous ones because no one applied, except the incumbents.

Amy Trubiroha is the hospital’s election official. She said just over 11,000 ballots were dropped in the mail Tuesday. She expects more turnout this year than in 2010, when just under 5,000 people voted for three candidates

“With seven candidates running for two spots, anything can happen," she said. "There is a lot more interest in what’s happening in our community than there probably was six years ago.”

This election may draw interest now that two top administrators have resigned — Dan Trubiroha is hoping at least 7,000 people vote in the election. Ballots must be returned to AVH’s administration office by 7 p.m. on May 3. They can be mailed or dropped off in person.
