Basalt underpass construction expected to start late summer or early fall

Elise Thatcher

Construction for Basalt’s underpass could start in a little more than three months. Town Council formally approved the building contract this week.

There’s a few more steps before workers can start moving dirt. At a regular town council meeting Tuesday night, Basalt Town Manager Mike Scanlon said that includes “the communication piece, which is the most important, over the next three months. So that businesses, the residents, the school district in particular are all on the same page as we move forward.”

The more than $7.1 million project will be built by Grand Junction-based United Companies, owned by Oldcastle Southwest Group, Incorporated.
