Bond increased for two suspects in pot shop robbery

Elise Thatcher

Four males are suspected of carrying out-- or helping with-- Monday’s armed robbery at a Carbondale marijuana dispensary.  On Tuesday, a judge doubled bond for two of men to $200,000 each. One is recently from Brooklyn, New York, and the other from Palm Springs, California.

Police estimate about $1,000 in cash, plus marijuana and pot products were taken in the incident, but District Attorney Sherry Caloia says Carbondale's robbery was more dangerous than a similar incident in Aspen this summer, when a former employee threatened workers with a hammer before stealing lots of marijuana. "There are a number of bad guys in town,” she said Tuesday. “We seem to have had an increase in our crime wave going on. I don’t know if these are all part of the same group."

A third suspect in the Carbondale incident is a longtime Garfield County resident and also appeared in court on Tuesday. All three have criminal histories and face felony and misdemeanor charges for this robbery. They could face nearly fifty years in prison each if convicted. Similar charges will likely be filed against a fourth suspect, who’s a juvenile.
