Update 2:09 p.m
Westbound traffic still closed. No estimated time of reopening.
All lanes on I-70 just west of Grizzly Creek are currently closed due to a rockslide.
The slide occured around 1 a.m. Tuesday and mostly impacted westbound lanes, which were covered with the equivalent of 30 dump trucks worth of debris. Some boulders are as large as SUV’s.
A geohazards team responded to the scene to remove rock from the interstate, using airbags to dislodge rocks loosened by the fall to prevent future incidents. Engineers are assessing damage and don’t know when lanes will reopen.
CDOT recommends travelers re-route through Steamboat Springs, and not Cottonwood Pass. Updates will be available through CDOT's website.
