Carbondale resident Jim Calaway died early Wednesday morning. He was 87 years old and a dedicated community member and philanthropist.
Calaway was the first in his family to attend college. He built a fortune in the oil and gas industry.
He and his wife Connie moved to Carbondale in 1993. They began attending the Unitarian Universalist Congregation there.
Calaway has funded hundreds of scholarships for students at Colorado Mountain College. He’s given considerably to Valley View Hospital’s cancer center, which bears his name.
A memorial service will be held in January.
