CDOT repaves road near roundabout

Barbara Platts

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will be paving near the roundabout at the entrance to Aspen tomorrow morning, Oct. 12, from 9:30 a.m. until noon.

CDOT will not be repaving the roundabout itself, but a 1,000-foot-section of road immediately to the east. The agency repaved the roundabout in May 2016, much to drivers’ chagrin. Pitkin County was worried the ruts would continue to form, so it asked CDOT to come back and pave some more.

Finding an alternate route is advised, but no detour will be provided.

"If you're going eastbound into Aspen, you might want to get off and avoid that section if you can," says Tracy Trulove of CDOT.

The only alternative route into town is McLain Flats Road, leading to Cemetery Lane.
