Colorado Mountain College has to give money back to two oil and gas companies that overpaid their taxes.
The college has to return a total of around $665,000 to Caerus and Encana. The former most recently discovered it made errors in the volume and the revenues of natural gas it reported to the county in 2014.
CMC is among several school, fire and special districts in Garfield County who now have to return money. The college says, in December, the board of trustees set aside funds explicitly for this purpose.
