Community picnics connect locals this weekend

Locals have several opportunities this weekend to reconnect and celebrate the off season.

The signs of autumn's off season are here, reduced bus frequency and lowered parking rates among them.

Tomorrow, the Aspen Valley Hospital is holding a community picnic. It's being promoted as a way for the public institution to celebrate health and community. It’s the second year of what community relations director Jennifer Slaughter hopes to be an annual event.

“It was very wonderful last year to welcome the community for an event that really is about giving back, about being together, and it’s just an opportunity to get to know one another,” said Slaughter.

On Sunday, the City of Aspen holds its yearly picnic at the public golf course, featuring games and local fare.
