Construction For Easier Access To Red Hill Trail Delayed

Construction at the intersection to access the Red Hill trail system in Carbondale was supposed to be completed this fall. Now that winter is quickly approaching, the project is delayed.

A series of projects began in 2017 when the Town of Carbondale receieved a donation to build new public trails to connect to the recreation area.

When those were completed in 2018 and 2019, a new project began to straighten County Road 107, which intersects Highway 82 to access the trailhead.

That project was intended to be completed this fall, but because of other highway construction projects and permitting delays, the project has been delayed until spring.

The town of Carbondale says spring construction could affect residents who live along County Road 107.

The project will create a straight approach to the intersection on Highway 82, and build two new parking areas for easier access to the trailhead.

Once started in spring 2020, the project is expected to take six weeks.
