The Aspen City Council approved the initial development steps for city employee housing during its meeting on Monday. The resolution passed 4-1, Councilman Bert Myrin was the dissenting vote.

City staff requested approval from council for Charles Cunniffe Architects and NV5 to develop affordable housing on Main street on the back part of the lot that will become the new police station.  The housing would only be open to city employees.

Jeff  Pendarvis, project manager for the City of Aspen, says housing Aspen Police Department Staff and other government employees is the right thing to do with the additional land.

“It’s a good project, I think it will provide some much needed housing for the community. It's in a good location. I think it’ll be good neighbors to Obermeyer and to Concept 600”

The price of the design team is $411,039.00. Eventually ten to twelve units ranging from one to three bedrooms will be built on the property.
