Last month's above-average rain and snowfall drastically increased flood risk, especially in the burn zone of the Lake Christine Fire.
Officials are very concerned about the risk of large flows.
Wildfires charr soil and vegetation, so the ground can’t absorb water.
Fast-running water in burn areas can churn up soil and debris, leading to mudslides. Eagle County officials are hosting a meeting to inform residents of the risks of flood and mudslides.
They’re urging citizens to sign up for Pitkin Alerts, event if they don’t live in that county, to help them stay informed in case of an emergency. Residents who only want to get alerts about floods can text LCFLOOD to 888777.
The meeting is Monday at the Eagle County Annex in El Jebel.
