Evacuation at Tiehack

Aspen Ski Company

All 80 riders of Buttermilk’s Tiehack ski lift have been evacuated after the lift became inoperational around 11am Wednesday.

An “electrical issue” caused the lift to lose power. Once crews realized the repair would take longer than expected, evacuation began to bring the passengers to the ground.

Aspen Skiing Company crews were in touch with the riders for the estimated two hours that they were stranded on the detachable quad chairlift. Each passenger received a complimentary lift ticket, lunch at Bumps Restaurant and hot cocoa at the bottom of the mountain.

The lift became operational in 2012, there has not been a chair lift evacuation since the early 90’s.
