Federal investigation underway in Mid-Valley

Facebook/U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security

A spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security confirmed special agents with the department were in the Mid-Valley this week. Federal vehicles were seen in the Willits and El Jebel areas.

The spokesman for Homeland Security was tight-lipped and wouldn’t comment beyond saying its an ongoing investigation. Eagle County Sheriff James Van Beek says his officers were notified federal agents were in the area earlier this week. He says Homeland Security in conjunction with the U.S. Marshal’s Service was executing arrest warrants, primarily working to locate and arrest deportable gang members. He adds the federal agencies used City Market in El Jebel as a staging ground. Pitkin County sheriff Joe Disalvo says one of his deputies in the area saw authorities wearing tactical gear. They told Deputy Anthony Todaro they had arrest warrants for individuals believed to be in the area. Todaroran the individuals’ names through a local database and nothing came up.
