Fundraising for Carbondale homeless could cover hotel costs

Hundreds of dollars have been raised to help homeless people in Carbondale. As of Monday evening, about five hundred dollars were on hand.

Real estate broker Lynn Kirchner and others have been trying to pin down what’s the best way to keep folks out of the cold at night. Now they’ve decided the fundraising can go towards helping someone in “urgent need... [whom] we can get into temporary housing or an overnight accommodation.” The funds could cover nights at a hotel, for example.

Carbondale police say they’re aware of three people in Carbondale who are homeless. A fourth has been helped and is no longer on the street. About a hundred people are part of the effort to help. Another organizing meeting will be held Tuesday.
